Description

52100 AMS 6444 is a low alloy steel comprised mostly of carbon and chromium that has a variety of industrial applications due to its diverse properties. When this metal is tempered, it can be easier to work with than other metals.

Properties

52100 AMS 6444 is magnetic. 52100 AMS 6444 is resistant to damage and has a high level of hardness. Projects that require 52100 AMS 6444 to be used under extreme conditions can be taken care of by conditioning the product using heat. Heat conditioning can make 52100 AMS 644 a good choice for projects that need tension resistance and strength under pressure. The product is tempered at about 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Tensile tests can be used for an accurate inventory of the properties of 52100 AMS 6444.

Hardness

Annealed, magnetic and hardens under treatment and conditioning. Hardening treatment can be accompanied by an aging treatment. Cold water treatments can increase the strength of aging treatments. Hardness is dependent upon level of treatment. Maximum hardness of 52100 AMS 6444 is usually about 93 on the Rockwell scale.

Machinability

52100 AMS 6444 can be easier to machine than most alloys of its kind. This product is good for applying conventional machinery techniques. Heat working can be done up to about 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. Product is annealed at around 1600 degrees Fahrenheit and should be cooled slowly after annealing to relieve any strain during cold working. Using an oil treatment subsequent to quenching procedures can increase the hardening of 52100 AMS 6444.

Density

51200 AMS 6444 has a typical density of 7.85 g/cm3 or 0.283 lbs/cubic inch.
