A286 AMS 5731 is a nickel alloy composed of iron, nickel, chromium, titanium, molybdenum, aluminum, and vanadium. It boasts non-magnetic properties and is solution heat-treated. AMS 5731 is a high temperature alloy that offers moderate strength and corrosion resistance. AMS 5731 is generally found in various stress applications. Some of these applications include: low pressure turbines, shafts, afterburner parts, and compressors. AMS 5731 offers wide application fasteners and springs when aged after cold work. Its ideal aging treatment is at a temperature of 1325 degrees Fahrenheit for 16 hours. Typically produced by a melting method, AMS 5731 is often hot rolled at 1800 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal use.
Composed of iron, nickel, chromium, titanium, molybdenum, aluminum, and vanadium, A286 AMS 5732 offers moderate strength and is aged hardened. Because of this characteristic, it’s known to be more of a challenge to machine than AMS 5731. AMS 5732 is similar to some stainless steels and is often used in jet engine applications. Some of these applications include: afterburner parts, shafts, compressors, and low pressure turbines. AMS 5732 boasts solid oxidation resistance and can be used continuously in service reaching 1500 degrees Fahrenheit.
