A286 Rod Bar is a non-magnetic, iron-based super alloy composed of Iron, Nickel, Chromium, Titanium, Molybdenum, Aluminum, and Vanadium. Its excellent strength and great oxidation resistance make it ideal for use in all applications at temperatures up to 1300º F (704°C), and also for lower stress applications at higher temperatures. A286 Rod Bar provides continuous service in low-stress applications up to 1500°F (816°C) and intermittent service up to 1800°F (982°C). Common applications for A286 Rod Bar include: jet engines, fasteners, superchargers, casings, blades, afterburner parts, and turbine wheels.
A286 Rod Bar’s mechanical properties are typically developed by an 1800ºF (982°C) solution treatment designed to maximize creep and stress rupture properties, but its strength can be dramatically increased by aging the solution-treated material at 1325°F (718°C). This austenitic alloy reaches high strength levels when aged after cold work, and boasts wide application as high temperature fasteners and springs. A286 Rod Bar is one of the easiest high-temperature alloys to cold head when it has been solution-treated.
A286 Rod Bar specifications can be AMS 5731, 5732, or 5737. A286 Rod Bar’s universal trade name is A286, and it is available as: seamless pipe, welded pipe, pipe fittings, flanges, A286 Rod and Bar, seamless tube, welded tube, sheet, plate, wire, and forgings.
Advanced Global Materials specializes in providing specialty metals to the defense, oil & gas, solar & wind turbine, medical, marine, and aerospace industries. In addition to boasting superior specification requirement and custom sizing expertise, we guarantee quick and timely service at very competitive prices.

A286 An age – harden able iron base super alloy. Used in applications requiring high strength. A286 is used for reasonably low cost when moderate strength and oxidation resistance are required at temperatures greater than suitable for stainless steels. Applications for A-286 are, Jet engine components, high temperature fastners, springs, non-magnetic cryogenic equipment and gas turbines.
A286 is an iron-nickel-chromium alloy with traces of Titanium. A 286 is used in applications requiring high strength. As one of the austenitic alloys it maintains good strength and oxidation resistance at temperatures reaching up to 1300ºF. Available at reasonably low cost. When moderate strength and oxidation resistance is required. Used as a replacement for stainless alloys. When they are less then suitable for high demand applications. A-286 is used due to it's high strength and excellent fabrication characteristics A286 is used in many components of jet engines and industrial gas turbines, fasteners, springs and equipment. A286 is also widely used in the offshore oil and gas industry where the components are subject to high levels of heat and stress due to weather and climate conditions.
Advanced Global A-286 Availability
Alloy A 286 is available in Plate, Sheet, Round Bar, Flat bar, forged bar.
Custom sizes. Processing available.
Alloy A286 bar can be solution treated at the temperatures detailed below, rapid cooled and then age hardened at 1325ºF (720ºC) for 16 hours and air cooling. The 1800ºF (980ºC) solution treatment produces the highest creep-rupture strength in age-hardened material whereas the 1650ºF (900ºC) treatment results in improved ductility and room temperature strength.
