AM 355 is a stainless steel alloy composed of Chromium, Nickel, and Molybedenum. It can be hardened through two processes: precipitation or martensitic transformation. AM 355 is generally used in industrial applications such as: rotors and shafts, discs, blades, and other gas turbine compressor components. AM 355 boasts high strength through cold working, and exhibits superior corrosion resistance. AM 355 is typically supplied in annealed or equalized conditions. AM 355 boasts superior workability. The maximum temperature that it can be worked at is 2100 degrees Fahrenheit. It can then be finished between 1700 and 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. When cold worked, AM 355 is comparable to AISI type 300 stainless steels. In order to be machined successfully, AM 355 requires rigid supports, positive cuts, slow speeds, and sufficient coolant.
