AMS 5663 is generally used in heat treatments relating to Inconel 718. During the heat treatment, the first part of the process requires a solution heat treatment. This is generally conducted at a minimum temperature of 1725 degrees Fahrenheit. After the solution heat treatment, the component undergoes a precipitation treatment at a temperature that can reach up to 1400 degrees Fahrenheit. Parts forged by AMS 5663 are typically used in the following applications: blades and vanes, gas turbine engine cases, and flanges or seals. Further, parts forged by AMS 5663 generally boast good tensile and yield strengths, but often exhibit weaker crack and stress resistant properties. A nickel-based alloy, AMS 5663 is generally vacuum induction melted.
